Surgical vs. Conservative Care Options
During the patient’s initial consultation, the surgeon will gather as much information as possible to best determine the pros and cons of surgical vs. conservative care options. With a thorough orthopedic examination and a review of imaging Dr. Mora will recommend both surgical and conservative care options for his patients. The patient will then be able to make an informed decision as to which option best aligns with their goals.
Common Procedures
Rotator Cuff Repair
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles that help stabilize and move the shoulder. It is a very common cause of pain and disability in adults. Minor problems with the rotator cuff can cause minor discomfort and stiffness while larger problem can cause normal activities of daily living, like combing your hair, to become too painful and difficult to do.

With a thorough orthopedic examination and a review of imaging Dr. Mora will recommend both surgical and conservative care options for his patients.
Non-Surgical Options
If the patient can tolerate, physical therapy can help decrease the pain, increase the shoulder’s mobility and strengthen and injury rotator cuff. Depending on the severity of the tear and how long it has been injured, Dr. Mora may recommend any of the following non-surgical options:
- Rest
- NSAIDS
- Manipulation Under Anesthesia
- Ultrasound guided injections
- Physical Therapy
- Activity Modifications
Surgical Treatment
Dr. Mora may recommend surgery if your pain does no improve with non-surgical methods. Continued pain is the main indication for surgery, however certain sports injury may require surgery sooner.
Rotator Cuff Repair surgery is to repair a torn tendon and reattaching it at the origin at the head of the humerus.
Proper physical therapy and rehabilitation is crucial after surgical repair. Dr. Mora will share with the physical therapist of your choice his preferred rehabilitation protocols and post-operative instructions.
